From +30 to -7 degres (1/2)

My friend Fabrice was too hot in Dubai where he lives (30 degres), as he had to come to Almaty on last Friday for business, he also stayed for the week-end.

Mon ami Fabrice avait vraiment trop chaud a Dubai ou il habite, du coup comme il devait venir a Almaty pour affaires, il est reste egalement le week-end.

Nous avons remonte un petit canyon enneige et glace ; la glace est-elle assez solide pour supporter mon poids ?

Ice and snow / glace et neige

The good thing is Fabrice has his own camera allowing me to appear on my blog / comme Fabrice avait son appareil photo, ca me parait d'apparaitre un peu sur mon blog.

It is strictly forbidden to wash cars here, so I probably saved a 10 000 Tenge fine, doing it / Il est stricement interdit de laver sa voiture ici, j'ai bien du economiser 10 000 Tenge d'amende a le faire quand meme.

Smartphone

Fabrice brought me a SmartPhone from Dubai (see below equation to know what is a SmartPhone).

Fabrice m'a ramene de Dubai un SmartPhone ; qu'est-ce qu'un SmartPhone, l'equation ci-dessous devrait vous l'expliquer aisement selon le principe du petit dessin versus le grand discours.

Christmas decorations

Even New Year is more celebrated than Christmas, there are many Christmas style decorations (Santa...) in the streets of Almaty.

Meme si Noel n'est pas fete ici (c'est plutot le nouvel an) il y a bcp de decorations avec des Peres Noel et autres bonhommes de neige dans les rues.
As you can see, main color is blue.


The blue and red 'decoration' you can see on the right side of the above picture, cost me some money today. There were so many policemen in the streets (probably they need money before the end of the year) I have been arrested two times, for a total of 11 000 Tenge (62 euros)

Beaucoup de policiers dans les rues aujourd'hui (probablement qu'ils ont besoin d'argent pour les fetes), j'ai ete arrete 2 fois pour un total de 62 euros.

Tabagan

Tabagan (http://www.tabagan.kz/) is a ski resort which is situated 40 kilometers east of Almaty (see the cyrillic spelling in the left up corner of the above picture). By the way, a message for our anti-jeep readers: even this resort is not so high (1 600 meters), no chance to get there without a jeep + snow tyres, as the road is not cleared of snow. Just to say that my Tucson is of some use.

Tabagan est une station de ski a 40 km a l'est d'Almaty ou je suis alle aujourd'hui. Aucune chance d'y arriver sans un 4 x 4 et des pneus neige, car la route n'est pas deneigee.

On the other hand, not so much snow on the slopes!

Par contre, pas bcp de neige sur les pistes !

La piste de luge la plus chere du monde, 5 euros la descente !

Ice cream is still possible (temperature is only -4)

On peut meme se faire une glace, il ne fait que -4.

And when you are tired and / or cold, there is a very warm swimming pool (air 30, water 29)

Et pour se reposer et se rechauffer, il y a meme une piscine, avec l'air a 30 degres et l'eau a 29 degres.

Roxy

Roxy is the name of a new restaurant with live music (excellent latino style band!) that just opened a couple of days ago.

We (= Olya, Lucia, Irmek, Zhanat and myself) went there to celebrate the last day of Anthony in Kazakhstan before his return to France.

Anthony trained Lucia to latino dance.

Fashion Cafe

On continue la tournee des hauts lieux d'Almaty avec Anthony, je crois qu'il a bien apprecie le Fashion Cafe.

It seems that Anthony appreciated Fashion Cafe very much.

Pirate

Pirate est un nouveau restaurant a theme qui vient d'ouvrir a Almaty. Avec Anthony, un collegue de Schneider Corporate (de France donc) qui passe la semaine ici, nous l' avons teste. Conclusion: un tres beau lieu (decor et serveurs pirate), nourriture tres bien. ils forcent sur la consommation (les cocktails non commandes n'en finissaient pas d'arriver), et hors de prix. On a passe une bonne soiree quand meme.

Raclette at the office / au bureau

First, Bogdan cooks potatoes.

En premier, Bogdan fait cuire les patates.

As soon as potatoes are cooked, we can eat the melted cheese : the boss knows how to do as he is French, but for Elina it is her first time.

Et puis on attaque: le chef est tres a l'aise, c'est normal il est francais. Derriere, Elina decouvre pour la premiere fois.
